Dharavi

Reminiscent of life-on-the-street classics "Pixote" and "Salaam Bombay!", "Dharavi" plunges us into the rich tapestry of drama unfolding in the titular shantytown in the heart of Bombay. Om Puri (India's Robert De Niro) plays Rajkaran, a scrappy cab driver who ekes out a living alongside his wife (Shabana Azmi) and son in a one-room tenement. With steely nerve, writer-director Sudhir Mishra follows Rajkaran's fortunes as he realizes his dream of running his business only to find his marriage crumbling, and his livelihood under the predatory eye of greedy politicians.
