Natalie Portman is Rebecca, an American living in Jerusalem. Despondent after a breakup, Rebecca seizes a chance at escape offered by cab driver Hanna (Cannes Best Actress awardee Hanna Laslo). The ensuing road trip takes the women into Jordan's free zone, where a Palestinian woman (Hiam Abbass) joins them on their trek. During the continuing voyage, Rebecca makes various discoveries concerning her unacknowledged internal conflicts. A quiet and fascinating film from crusading Israeli filmmaker Amos Gitai.

A crowd of ultra-orthodox Jewish worshippers confronted Natalie Portman and her co-star Aki Avni, objecting to the couple kissing during the filming of a scene beside Jerusalem's Western Wall. The crowd charged and shouted "Immoral, immoral!" Police asked the actors to leave and return later, and they agreed.
