A clan sends out two of their members to retrieve a powerful sword to prevent its misuse. Along the way they encounter a skilled swordswoman who is also after the weapon. When she falls in love with one of the clan members and thoughtlessly wounds the other, pursuit of the Thundering Sword becomes secondary to her roiling emotions and guilt over the hasty and violent actions she has perpetrated against the clan.
