Richard Gere is perfect as an emotionally void male escort in this romantic crime drama from producer Jerry Bruckheimer. Julian Kay (Gere) services all manner of upscale Hollywood ladies, but he discovers love in a wealthy senator's wife (Lauren Hutton). His newfound enjoyment is short-lived-- when one of his clients is found murdered he must race to clear his name or risk losing it all.

American Gigolo is a 1980 thriller film, written and directed by Paul Schrader. Schrader based the film on French director Robert Bresson's Pickpocket (1959). It is also (informally) considered the second installment in his "night workers" trilogy, following Taxi Driver (1976) and preceding Light Sleeper (1992).
