A gorgeously stylized Bollywood comedy-drama, this one's both a blast from the hippie past and among screen idol Dev Anand's more off-the-wall diversions. Siblings Prashant and Jasbir haven't seen other since they were kids, living in Montreal, when their parents separated. Prashant (Dev Anand), grown up and back in India, receives word from his since-remarried father that Jasbir's left Montreal and shacked up with hippies in Katmandu. What follows is Prashant odyssey into Jasbir's psychedelic wonder-world as he tries to rescue his long-lost sister from hippie oblivion. This film boasts one of R.D. Burman's finest soundtracks, highlighting the unforgettable "Dum Maro Dum" sung by award-winning singer Asha Bhosle.

Hare Rama Hare Krishna is a 1971 Indian film directed by Dev Anand starring himself and Zeenat Aman. The film was a hit and a star-making vehicle for Zeenat Aman, who played a westernized hippie, and won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award,, as well as the BFJA Award for Best Actress.. The movie dealt with the decadence of the Hippie culture. It aimed to have an anti-drug message and also depicts some problems associated with Westernization such as divorce.

Much of the film was shot in Nepal. A scene in the movie is shot in a Nepalese rug factory with many locals used as extras. As the footage is over 30 years old, it can be viewed as a sort of ethnic documentary on Nepalese culture.
