Rani Mukherjee plays a young girl who can only communicate with the outside world through her sense of touch. Her desperate parents hire Debraj Sinha (Amitabh Bachchan), a broken down teacher in a final effort to help the girl. With single-mindedness approaching insanity, Debraj achieves a miraculous breakthrough with Michelle. Years later, Michelle encounters her teacher once again, but Debraj now is the one who is lost, and it is Michelle who must bring Debraj back into the light.
