"Rituparno Ghosh’s Raincoat is one of the finest cinematic meditations on the nature of love, pride, and selflessness ever committed to celluloid." Surjyakiran Das, -- Planet Bollywood "It's everything a serious, art-minded cinephile would savor: a moody, expertly-acted and -directed meditation on the realities of love, loneliness, and life." Michael Dequina, -- Film Threat
Recalling the visual poetry of Wong Kar Wai's "In the Mood for Love", acclaimed director Rituparno Ghosh uses colors and textures to communicate the heartache of two former lovers longing to reunite. Manoj (Ajay Devgan) and Neerja (Aishwarya Rai), a young couple in love, are separated after Neerja consents to an arranged marriage and leaves for Calcutta. One rainy afternoon, they find each other in the city and when Manoj discovers that Neerja's married life is far from happy, old affections stir again.
