Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra dispenses with songs and ratchets up the suspense in this Bollywood murder mystery. Tension is already high during a film shoot, and soon a despised actress is mysteriously murdered. It is up to a crusading detective (Naseeruddin Shah) to interrogate the suspects, examine the clues, and announce the identity of the killer. The film’s dark atmosphere and noirish overtones make Khamosh a remarkable departure from traditional Bollywood fare.
