i grew up in india and now live in la. i am a film maker. i have two sons who tie me to the US as they were born here and consider this their home. for me - my heart is in india and i would like to move back.
my first feature film - amu - written, directed and produced by me, opened to rave reviews during it's it's theatrical release in india (2005) and north america (2007). it had already had a successful run at the festivals - berlin, toronto, AFI etc and won numerous awards including two national awards and the FIPRESCI critics award. you can watch it on jaman. i am currently in pre production on my next film - chittagong - which i am co directing with my husband ved pyne. chittagong is the true story of an uprising against the british in 1930 india. the protagonist is the youngest participant who was only 14 years old. fifty boys led by a school teacher took on and defeated the british imperialist army militarily. two young girls - fifteen and seventeen - also become key leaders of this unknown and inspiring tale of courage and sacrifice.

It beats me why Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali is best known for Black
and Devdas and not for this gem of a film which happens to be his first.
