The entire plot is covered in the synopsis. Feargal Sharkey in a daiper was entertaining, but the movie wasn't. |

I'll say it quickly before I babble - This was really brilliant!... | I'll say it quickly before I babble - This was really brilliant!
I have to admit that had this been a feature length there is a small chance I may have turned it off quite near the beginning, being that my tollerance for crap is at an all time low, and I actually detested the intro. It was all choppy and the sound was incredibly bad, which just made it even more unbearable. At certain points I could hardly hear the female actress in particular and all this combined with the Jeff Buckleyesque score was making me irritated. Aaaanyway, the movie (or was it I?) did a complete 180 and totally redeemed itself in my eyes. What manifested was an exceptionally well acted and interesting film with fantastic dialogue and structure. The actors were both great. Initially I favoured David Davalos's performance, but eventually was really impressed by Heather Dilly. Whatever - they both perfectly executed a very, very good screenplay! I'm curious as to what degree it was improvised.
If I've any complaint, it's that both character's had the odd tendency of switching very rapidly from one personality to another, almost outside of and beyond the story's premise (and aside from the role playing). Although this character quirk clearly contributed to the concept, it was still a little weird at times. I suppose Ben reverts to being a pussy almost involuntarily, but since it could be argued that his organic state is actually the agressor in him, the switch happens sometimes a little too quickly and appears overly schitzo. And my hasty prejudice aside, I do think there is something to be said about the intro not quite living up to the rest of the film. The ambiguity of the situation was not a problem, but the cinematography needn't have been so 'home movie' and jumpy, and perhaps just a little slower at times would have been appreciated. But I'm picking at straws here... I've not a single excuse to use the word cliche, and that's a turnout for the books in itself. I was ultimately very impressed by the entire production. It may even justify the creation of a Favorite's list... |
