Favorite Movies:
In Hindi cinema my heart seems to have been firmly lodged in the 60s and 70s: Sholay, Jewel Thief, Seeta aur Geeta, are among my favorites. I think do think the present is a new Golden Age of Hindi film; though I don't watch as many recent films, favorites include Lage raho Munnabhai and Lagaan.
I found my way to Hindi films via parallel cinema: favorites include Ankur, Shatranj ke khilari, and 1947: Earth. Arth is another favorite, one that straddles the line between art and mainstream film.

Favorite Actors/Actresses:
In Hindi film, above all others, Shabana Azmi. Don't get me started. Or just visit my Shabana Azmi blog and fan site Sounds Like Power (http://soundslikepower.blogspot.com ).
I also count Madhuri Dixit, Hema Malini, Sharmila Tagore, Smita Patil, Madhubala, Manisha Koirala, Sanjeev Kumar, Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, and Aamir Khan among my favorites.
