“It’s shot through with a dark, absurdist sense of humor and is ravishing to behold…”—Los Angeles Times
Mika Kaurismäki's beautifully strange film finds alcoholic musician Antti Autiomaa (also known as Zombie) returning to Helsinki after a few aimless months in Istanbul. A brief stint in Finland’s military ends when Zombie adds turpentine to the officers’ soup, but Zombie finds a new occupation when he joins his friend’s “American” rock band. Zombie fights to remain standing (and make the band’s next gig) even as the world continues to stack the odds against him.
