“…full of arresting and eloquent images.”—San Francisco Chronicle
The toil of the workingman is the subject of this fascinating documentary from Austrian director Michael Glawogger. Glawogger looks at the perils of being a coal miner in the Ukraine, a slaughterhouse worker in Nigeria, a sulfur miner in Indonesia, a ship-breaker in Pakistan, and a steel worker in China. This film provides viewers with an important perspective on the harsh treatment meted out to certain factions of the workforce, and offers an often lyrical portrait of the men and women who persevere in some of the world's most dangerous occupations. The otherworldly score is by composer John Zorn.
