A powerfully acted drama featuring Oscar winner Holly Hunter playing Emma, a housekeeper who comes to work for widower Richard (Michael Moriarty) and his grown son Wendell (Kiefer Sutherland). Gradually, emotional bonds develop between her and both men. When Richard asks Emma to marry him, Wendell spirals into jealousy and dismay. But their loyalty to each other and their love for Emma find new challenges when Emma announces she's pregnant, and unsure which of the men is the father. Neither Richard nor Wendell can claim Emma' hand as both men become bound by the child, by their profound feelings for each to other, and to the woman they love.
