The Whore and the Whale

The destinies of two women (and of a re-appearing whale), separated by seven decades, intertwine in this gorgeously photographed, magical realist romance. Novelist Vera (Aitana Sánchez-Gijón), fighting to reclaim her life after a long illness, finds herself drawn to a series of erotic period photographs of a beautiful woman, Lola (Mercè Llorens), and a mystery man. She traces their origins to the Argentine heartland. During her search, reality and fiction blur as Vera spins Lola's love affair in her mind, and both women, linked in spirit, find their common peace.
