"So unsparingly honest in the way it treats human cruelty and resilience that it makes fashionably bleak films like "In the Company of Men" and even "Boys Don't Cry" seem unforgivably trite or exploitative." -- New York Post
Written and directed by Allison Anders ("Gas, Food Lodging") and starring the Oscar-nominated Don Cheadle and Kim Dickens of TV's hit series "Deadwood", this haunting film depicts the lifetime of healing and fallout from a grisly childhood sexual assault. Sherry (Kim Dickens) is a self-destructive musician who scores a hit song which is the story of her own rape. Her manager/lover (Don Cheadle) tries to be as supportive as he can to her volatile lifestyle of boozing and late nights. Hollywood rock journalist and Sherry's childhood friend, Owen (Gabriel Mann), journeys back to their hometown to interview her. Upon his arrival, it quickly becomes clear that he has returned for more than a story – he’s returned for redemption – he’s returned to confront the painful truth about the part he played in an unspeakable act of violence and betrayal.
