Terror’s Advocate crafts a compelling portrait of Jacques Vergès, the eloquent lawyer notorious for defending some of the 20th century’s most controversial and despised figures. Through interviews and archival footage, director Barbet Schroeder examines the most famous cases of Vergès’ career, including the defenses of Algerian freedom fighter Djamila Bouhired and Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie. Schroeder never levels judgment against Vergès, resulting in a film as mysterious as its subject.
