Using Ingmar Bergman’s Autumn Sonata as inspiration, filmmaker Khalid Mohamed crafts a compelling portrait of a strained mother-daughter relationship. Rukhsana (Shabana Azmi in a crystalline, award-winning performance) is a popular singer, whose fame drives her husband to suicide. The ensuing scandal alienates Rukhsana from her daughter Tehzeeb (Urmila Matondkar). Years later, the estranged mother and daughter brace themselves for a difficult meeting, and struggle to articulate their complex feelings.
