"...vivid period drama about a small town's divided loyalties in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War." -- Village Voice
Lucia returns to her small village following the Spanish Civil War and falls in love with Manuel, a young ironsmith by day, but a Republican guerrilla, a “Maqui,” at night. After a Maqui raid frees a number of jailed Republicans, Manuel is exposed and must flee to the mountains. The danger and crushing repression that follow show Lucia that her—and the Maquis’—vision of freedom may be nothing more than a dream.
