Nick Wells (Robert De Niro) is a criminal with a retirement plan -- steal a rare French scepter from a high-security vault and spend the rest of his days running a jazz club in New York. In order to realize his dream, he needs the help of his longtime partner Max (Marlon Brando) and Jack Teller (Edward Norton) a young up-and-coming criminal with access to the customs house where the item is safely stashed. As tensions grow between the three thieves, their plan begins to fall apart and the fate of the scepter is left to one man... but which one?
