Writer Scott B. Smith adapted his own novel of a group of Americans who find more than they bargained for during a Mexican holiday. Arriving at a Mayan pyramid, the Americans find themselves surrounded by armed locals, who refuse to let them leave. Their problems quickly escalate as they find something even more terrifying awaiting them within the pyramid. The Ruins offers a powerful update of tried-and-true horror conventions, and creates a strong atmosphere of unrelenting dread. Rated R.
