When China’s communism and encroaching capitalism collide, it’s unsettling for everyone, even petty thieves. Xiao Wu is a small-town pickpocket in crisis and worried about his future. A local cop is out to get him. A longtime thief friend snubs him since turning entrepreneur. And Mei Mei, the local karaoke hostess, is just stringing him along. A visit to his parents in a neighboring village could very well push him over the edge.
