A Mexican boy discovers that his long-lost father now lives in New York. He smuggles himself to Brooklyn, but upon arrival runs afoul of a scheme to steal his identity and his father’s fortune. Filmmaker Christopher Zalla eschews overt politicizing or sentimentality, keeping his story rooted in the experiences of his young protagonist; the result is an eye-opening look at the struggles of immigrants to the U.S. and, ultimately, a vividly powerful story of family, loyalty, and love.
