On a class assignment to capture the essence of Obaba, a small Basque town, a young teacher, Lourdes (Barbara Lennie), finds the residents friendly, but a bit strange. In recounting the oddities of life in Obaba to Lourdes, the populace seems to have a peculiar hypnotic quality that draws the young woman into a world she’s not quite sure she wants to enter, but somehow can't seem to resist.
