Mr. Rice's Secret

David Bowie plays Mr. Rice, a mysterious spirit who teaches a young boy about life and accepting death. Twelve year old Owen Walters (Bill Switzer) has terminal cancer and has also just lost his best friend, the elderly and enigmatic Mr. Rice. Owen and his friends break into Mr. Rice’s empty house on a dare and there he finds a series of letters written to him by Mr. Rice in code, leading to a mysterious treasure hunt that teaches Owen the meaning of hope, friendship and other inspiring surprises.
