Based on a story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, this melodrama tracks the marriage and disintegration of an American couple (Elizabeth Taylor, Van Johnson) living in post-WWII Paris. The Last Time I Saw Paris is a lushly-photographed, emotionally honest story, and Taylor’s luminosity plays nicely against Johnson’s quiet intensity. Excellent location photography and the haunting title song by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein round out this film, a textbook example of 1950s Hollywood melodrama.
