During the 1950s, Brazil was in a state of rapid industrialization and social change. Odete Lara, a 21-year-old blonde and beautiful model, captured the imagination of the entire country and was soon catapulted to the top of the entertainment world, where she quickly became an iconic commodity to millions. But at the height of her fame, she abruptly abandoned her career and retreated to the mountains near Rio for a life of meditation and religious devotion.
