"The 1976 rendition has a fresh, breezy feel to it. The screenplay, by Lorenzo Semple Jr. (Three Days of the Condor), is relentlessly tongue-in- cheek, and there's an air of self-aware campiness pervading the project." - Reelviews.net
Fred Wilson goes to a remote island to find oil. Instead he finds Kong, an ape who is worshipped by the natives. Since the oil expedition fails, Wilson captures Kong to make money off showing him to the world. Dwan, originally given to Kong as a sacrifice, is protected by Kong. Jack Prescott also wants the exploitation to stop in this 1976 remake of the classic 1933 film.
