Even after the Hollywood remakes, the original Ju-on retains its ability to unsettle even the most jaded viewer. A violent incident from the past has cast a pall over a quiet suburban house. When a caregiver (Megumi Okina) arrives at the house to care for an elderly woman living there, she enters a maelstrom of malevolent horror. Director Takashi Shimizu beautifully crafts each scene of Ju-on’s intricate plot, crafting, in the end, a modern horror classic.

Ju-on: The Grudge (呪怨, Juon?) is a 2003 Japanese "J-Horror" film, written and directed by Takashi Shimizu. The film is the third entry in the Ju-on series and is the first film theatrically released (the first two entries were direct to video productions). The film was released in Japan on January 25, 2003 and has spawned several sequels and an American remake titled The Grudge which was released in 2004.
