Turridu, a young soldier, returns from his military service to find his fiancee married to a prominent member of his village, Alfio. In attempts to regain his love, or at least revenge his loss, Turridu shakes up the village and is determined to fight Alfio. Based on the wildly succesful opera Cavalleria Rusticana that was performed in Italy for 55 years and over 14,000 times.
