Gilbert Grape (Johnny Depp) has a lot of responsibility for living in a town where nothing ever happens. He is the bread-winner for his dysfunctional family and caretaker of his younger, autistic brother, Arnie (Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio). When a young woman, Becky (Juliette Lewis) arrives, Gilbert falls in love and starts to think there might be more to life beyond the confines of his tiny home and desperate loved ones.
