Eleven year-old Derek Canton-Cryer’s application to a middle school honors program is rejected. He decides to appeal by submitting a video essay in which he attempts to do a better job of revealing his true inner nature. While making the video, he learns much more about himself, his family, "Death of a Salesman", and quantum physics than he ever could have imagined.
