Knight Chao Yun-yang, lord of Chao manor, is murdered by his neice Chao Chien-ying and student Lai Hung. They have long schemed to take over his property. Chien-ying seeks the help of swordsman Chin Hu as Chao Yu-lung, the victim's apparent heir, is due to return.
The two men meet on route to their destination and become good friends, unaware of each other's mission. On arrival, Yu-lung falls out with his cousin, a bandit chief. Outnumbered, he gets injured but manages to escape to a blind woman's home to nurse his wounds. After recovering, he slips into manor again; he gets away with certain documents which seem to point to Chin Hu as Chien-ying's associate.
On his return, Yu-lung finds the blind woman murdered. He later challenges Chin Hu to a duel. Chin Hu is forced to accept the challenge by Chien-ying who has threatened to keep his mother in custody.
The Duel takes place the next day. Deadlocked, the two fighters find themselves suddenly ambushed by Chien-ying's gang. They join forces and wipe out the ambushers in a bloody encounter. Chin Hu, angered by Chien-ying's plot against him, confronts her at her stronghold. They fight and kill each other. Yu Lung leaves to continue his life as a roving knight.
