Death Proof is a 2007 film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. The film centers on a psychopathic stunt man who stalks young women before murdering them in staged car accidents using his “death-proof” stunt car. The film is a tribute to muscle cars, exploitation, and slasher film genres of the 1970s. The film stars Kurt Russell, Zoë Bell, Rosario Dawson, Vanessa Ferlito, Jordan Ladd, Sydney Tamiia Poitier, Tracie Thoms, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Rose McGowan.

While the White Challenger is an obvious nod to Vanishing Point (1971), Kim's yellow mustang is a reference to the original H.B. Halicki film, Gone in 60 Seconds (1974). The yellow 1973 "Mach One" was the original "Elenor" in Halicki's film. In fact, it is mentioned as one of the greatest car movies in the diner scene, though Kim strongly adds that they are not referring to the remake Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000).
