Having gone unchecked for to long by governments, the effects of greenhouse gas induced global warming creates massive globally catastrophic hypercanes, tornadoes, floods and the eventually the new ice age. Professor Jack Hall (Quaid), a paleoclimatologist whose attempts to warn the US government and the world have fallen on deaf ears, must now turn his efforts on making the treacherous journey to New York City which is now covered with an icesheet to save his son, Sam (Gyllenhaal).

The Day After Tomorrow is a 2004 American apocalyptic science-fiction film that depicts the catastrophic effects of both global warming and global cooling in a series of extreme weather events that usher in a new Ice Age. It did well in the box office, grossing $542,771,772 internationally. It is the second highest grossing movie not to be #1 in the US box office (behind My Big Fat Greek Wedding). The movie was filmed in Montreal, and is the highest grossing Hollywood film in history to be filmed in Canada (if adjusted for inflation).
