Veteran filmmaker Bruce Beresford directs this modest but effective thriller that pits single father Ray Keene against dangerous assassin Carden. When Carden is arrested en route to an assignment, Ray volunteers to deliver Carden to justice. With Carden’s men following in pursuit, Ray must protect his son from the mounting danger. The chemistry between Freeman and Cusack propels this story, as Ray fights for redemption and Carden coolly awaits his destiny.

The Contract is a 2006 film directed by Bruce Beresford and written by late television scribe Stephen Katz and John Darrouzet. A cat-and-mouse thriller, The Contract stars Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman as assassin Frank Carden, and John Cusack as mild-mannered teacher Ray Keene. Released directly to video in the United States and most of Europe, The Contract received little critical notice, despite its high-profile cast.

Trivia:
Bruce Beresford writes extensively about this film in his recent memoir, "Josh Hartnett Definitely Wants To Do This". The production was apparently deeply troubled and Beresford was well aware that the script didn't make sense. The producers closed the shoot down after fifty days and Beresford was forced to use his own money to complete the film.
