Fourteen years after his groundbreaking low-budget comedy Clerks made indie film history, Kevin Smith revisits the characters that made him famous. Now in their thirties, Dante (Brian O'Halloran) and Randal (Jeff Anderson) remain trapped in dead-end jobs, this time at a New Jersey fast food joint. The chemistry between O'Halloran and Anderson is as hilarious as ever; they are joined here by Rosario Dawson, in a sharp turn as their put-upon but affectionate manager. And of course Jay and Silent Bob (Jason Mewes, Smith) are back, as well.

Clerks II is the sequel to Kevin Smith's 1994 film Clerks, and his sixth feature film to be set in the View Askewniverse. The film was released on July 21, 2006; it screened out of competition at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival and won the Audience Award at the 2006 Edinburgh International Film Festival.

The figure of Mooby the Golden Calf on the sign on the restaurant is in the same pose as the Buddy Christ statue from Dogma (1999). In the movie Dogma, Loki wants to start a killing spree as divine judgment for elevating the corporate icon to the same level of veneration as Christ. The Jesus figure on the "Got Christ?" shirt that Jay is wearing is also the same pose as the Buddy Christ statue.
