"It’s a film that could only be made by one of their own.” -- Ted Koppel, ABC Nightline/Up Close
A monumental achievement. "Brothers... On Holy Ground" is the only documentary in existence made by a FDNY fireman.
Shortly after noon on September 11th, retired FDNY firefighter Mike Lennon arrived with fire gear in hand at the devastation of the World Trade Center. After two hellish weeks of digging, first for survivors and then for remains, he grabbed his camera and began interviewing at nearly every firehouse that had lost men. An interview done prior to 9/11 with John Santore, a firefighter from Ladder Co. 5 who died at the WTC, leads to a flood of memories from his fellow firefighters who were with him inside the North Tower, the tower that was hit first. In this touching salute, they open up about surviving and coping; the widows talk to him about grief and healing. A resounding tribute, this film shows the hidden agony and the unbridled pride of the FDNY firefighters as revealed to one of their own.
