The Predators, the feared alien game hunters, have returned to Earth to engage in a coming of age ritual. Throughout history earth has been the proving ground of the Predators in their passage to become 'men'. The ritual involves the 'teenage' Predators hunting down a hive of Alien warriors the objective being to successfully defeat them and claim the skulls as its trophies and thus attain adulthood. This however does not always go according to plan, as in one hunting session in 13th century South America where the easily aggravated Aliens defeat the Predators, leading to the destruction of the both species and the Aztec people who worshipped the Predators as Gods. In the early 21st century on Earth billionaire industrialist Charles Bishop Weyland (Lance Henriksen) discovers a pyramid, buried thousands of feet under the ice of Antarctica, with his satellites. Knowing that he has discovered something important, Weyland organises a team, led by Lex Woods (Sanaa Lathan), and goes to the Antarctic to investigate the pyramid. They do not realise that the Predators have reawakened the enslaved Queen Alien and she has begun production of new eggs and Alien larvae. The battle stage is set, for Aliens and Predators, with the humans caught in the middle, as prey to both.

Wikipedia

Alien vs. Predator, also known as AVP, is a 2004 American science fiction film directed by Paul W.S. Anderson for 20th Century Fox. The film adapts the Alien vs. Predator crossover imprint bringing together the eponymous creatures of the Alien and Predator series, a concept which originated in a 1989 comic book. Anderson, Dan O'Bannon, and Ronald Shusett wrote the story, and Anderson and Shane Salerno adapted the story into a screenplay. Their writing was influenced by Aztec mythology, the comic book series, and the writings of Erich von Däniken.
