Golden Age musical star Alice Faye is Alice Perkins, a hopeful starlet who lands a role in a stage production. But Alice soon realizes that the show has been set up to fail by its unscrupulous producers, and teams with the show's beleaguered director (a fine James Dunn) to thwart the plot.
