Jaman and Dreamachine complete 42-film distribution deal

Definitive works of world cinema from notable directors including Panahi Jafar, Takeshi Kitano and Jacques Rivette, Walter Salles and Ning Ying now available online

SAN MATEO, Calif., May 1, 2007 — Jaman.com, Inc., the leading online community for world cinema, today announced the completion of an initial 42-film distribution deal with Dreamachine, one of the leading independent sales, production and financing houses. Under the agreement, the definitive works of the world's top foreign film directors will be available online in the U.S. via Jaman's online community, which delivers feature-length international and independent films in better-than-DVD quality directly to viewers around the world. The collection will include films such as Veronica Chen's Agua and Royston Tan's 4:30.

"Foreign films and international directors dominated all key categories of the 2007 Academy Awards, People's Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards, yet the traditional US film distribution and marketing system consistently underserves world cinema in the mainstream U.S. market," said Gaurav Dhillon, CEO of Jaman. "We're honored that Dreamachine has selected Jaman to distribute part of its extensive library of premiere films to people on the Jaman network where they can not only discover, enjoy and share these films, but also connect with the stories, traditions and cultures from around the world."

The long-term Jaman and Dreamachine 42-film distribution deal will kick off with 35 US Internet premieres, including the following titles:

  • It's Winter, Rafi Pitts (2006)
  • Agua, Veronica Chen (2006)
  • Bashing, Masahiro Kobaiashi (2005)
  • Takeshis', Takeshi Kitano, (2005)
  • 4:30, Royston Tan (2005)
  • Towards Mathilde, Claire Denis (2005)
  • Foreign Lands, Walter Salles (1996)
  • The Promise, Jean Pierre, Luc Dardenne (1996)
  • Rebels of a Neon God, Min Liang Tsai, (1992)

The initial selection brings the largest selection of premiere festival and auteur films from Iran, China and Japan to the Internet, as well as one of the largest collections of French auteur cinema, including works from Jacques Rivette, Arnaud Desplechin, Jean-Pierre Limosin, Philippe Garrel and Bruno Podalydès.

"Dreamachine's ambition is to build a global multimedia business based upon an ever-growing supply of premier cinema from around the world," said Hengameh Panahi in a statement. "We are committed to delivering award-winning films and staying at the forefront of film production and distribution.
