LINKING INDEPENDENTS AND CO-PRODUCING STATIONS (LINCS) provides matching funds (up to $100,000) to partnerships between public television stations and independent producers. To apply for LINCS funds, independents must first approach a public television station and establish a partnership. Single documentaries and innovative genre combinations will be considered. Projects must have begun production as evidenced by a work-in-progress tape.

Open Call provides finishing funds for single non-fiction or Animation public television programs on any subject, and from any viewpoint. Projects must have begun production as evidenced by a work-in-progress video.

The Diversity Development Fund seeks talented minority producers to develop projects for public television. We want to support minority artists to tell their stories and reach audiences often overlooked by conventional programming. Projects must be in the research or development phase, and cannot have begun production.

Filmstiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen
Founded in 1991 by the State of North-Rhine-Westphalia and the TV broadcast WDR in Cologne. In 1997, broadcasters ZDF, ProSieben and SAT.1 also joined the ranks. Committed to supporting writers, directors, producers, distributors and cinema owners, as well as low and big budget films and outstanding international television productions. In order to react flexibly to filmmakers' needs, the Filmstiftung assists in all phases of production including script development, pre- and post production, production itself and the sales and distribution of the final product.

Ford Foundation Media, Arts and Culture Grants
Supports public broadcasting and the independent production of film, video and radio programming; and supports efforts to engage diverse groups in work related to the media and to analyze the media's effect on society. A letter of inquiry is advisable to determine whether the foundation's present interests and funds permit consideration of the request.

Hollywood Film Foundation
Awards grants to first, second or third time feature directors/producers working with a budget of less than $5,000,000 and having at least 75% of production occurring in the state of California. Short subjects, documentaries, animation, and works-in-progress also considered. No pornography.

Kodak Project Access
Encourages individuals with projects budgeted for video to shoot and/or finish on film. Winners will be awarded up to 50% of their film stock budget. Actual amount of award will be determined by the Awards Committee. IDA/KODAK Awards will be given to as many as 10 films per cycle (2 cycles per year) pending qualified applications. Acceptance of the award precludes acceptance of other film stock grants. Film stock must be claimed within the same year of grant award.

The National Asian American Telecommunications Association awards final post-production funds needed to complete Asian Pacific American film and video projects that have the potential for national public television broadcast. Average award: $20,000.

Provides new filmmakers access to a fully accessorized Arri 16SR camera package, along with instruction and techinical support. Students, media arts center members and unaffiliated independents are encouraged to apply.

Peter J. Owens Emerging Filmmaker Award
Includes a $10,000 cash grant and in-kind editing at KQED in S.F. for an emerging independent filmmaker with a project in any stage of production or post-production.

Playboy Foundation
supports media projects that help to foster open communication about and research into human sexuality, reproductive health and rights; protect and foster civil rights and civil liberties in the U.S. for all people, including women, people affected and impacted by HIV/Aids, gays and lesbians, racial minorities, the poor and the disadvantaged; and eliminate censorship and protect freedom of expression. Gives post-production grants of $1,000-$2,000 to social-change documentary film and video projects. Projects must have non-profit fiscal sponsorship to be eligible.

Tribeca All Access (TAA) Connects
Tribeca All Access (TAA) Connects brings underrepresented filmmakers and writers together with film funders during the Tribeca Film Festival. 30 directors and screenwriters are selected to participate in one-on-one meetings with key industry players including development executives, agents, grants managers and equity investors. Filmmakers and writers who identify as African American, Asian American, Latino/a, Pacific Islander or Native American are welcome to submit scripts and documentary proposals for consideration. Juried cash awards are also presented to three filmmakers at the conclusion of the program (in 2005 these awards totaled $25,000). Deadline for the 2006 program is December 16, 2005.
