South Pacific Musicals

The musical South Pacific was the first production on Broadway at the Majestic Theatre in 1949 with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. This amazing production played on 1st September and it was its 600th performance. The show’s characters are from World War II and the themes and songs takes your breath away. South Pacific impresses you with humor, jokes, funny situations and amazing selected songs. Some of them like "Bali Ha'i," "Some Enchanted Evening,” ”Happy Talk”, "Younger than springtime" and "I'm in Love with a Wonderful Guy” are well-known to the dedicated admirers. In 11th August the sensation was the incredible musical South Pacific. The impressiveness of the show was presented in Oconee Community Theatre and Zorn along with co-sponsor Fatz Café. If you didn’t have the possibility to enjoy to this incredible production, in September 4-6 and 11-13, you will have the chance to see the most unforgettable show. The year 2008 was very successful for the team participating in the musical. The distinction is that most of the awards for South Pacific are individual. For example Scott Lehrer was a winner for Best Sound Design of a Musical, Bartlett Sher for Best Direction of a Musical, Christopher Gattelli for Best Choreography and others. In the same year South Pacific musicals won Tony award for Best Revival of a Musical. The legendary show won and a lot of Drama Desk Awards. For instance Bartlett Sher won award for Outstanding Director of a Musical. In 1958 was made a film with the same name, like musical. The film was nominated for Academy Award and won the music-adaptation and sound award. In 2005 was held and a concert version of the show at the Carnegie Hall. The public was delightful how actors can make everything so real.

South Pacific theatre was announced as one of the most memorable production and people said that this show is too good to be true. The reports of all performances of the musical were great, even most of the Critics said things like "Simply wonderful!", "gorgeous revival", "ravishing theatre," and others encomiums. Critic John Simon said that Rodgers and Hammerstein have been made one of the greatest musicals ever. They garnered seven accolades at the 2008 Tony Awards for the most successful show.
