Jorge Olguín, "Sangre Eterna", and the Guillermo del Toro connection
From Wikipedia >>>>
In 2002, Olguín releases “Sangre Eterna” aka “Eternal Blood”, a film of vampires with a psychological plot that involves the world of the gothic movements and role playing games. With a budget of only 300 thousand dollars, this film released the use of the special effects and make-up in the Chilean cinematography. The second film again of Olguin achieves success in the box-office. Later it receives the Prize to the Best Special Effects in the festival of Fantastic Cinema of Malaga, Prize to the Best Actor and Best FX Make-Up in the festival of Cinema of Terror of Los Angeles “Screamfest LA” of the hands of Stan Winston. Soon it film was released in DVD in the USA by Fangoria under the title of “Eternal Blood”. This film called the attention of the outstanding director Guillermo del Toro who at the moment is helping Olguín in the production of his third Chilean film “Caleuche: The call of the sea” in whose cinematographic production they will participate to outstanding Chilean actors]] like Leonor Varela (Blade II, Innocent Voices) and Santiago Cabrera (Heroes, TV series),in addition to the Mexican actress Ofelia Medina. But Olguín not only called the attention of Del Toro, also of Hollywood. The new company “The Mayhem Project” contracted Olguín to direct of the film “Clock Tower” based on survival horror video-game of “Playstation”, this film has date of beginning of production in December of 2006 and like date of opening in 2008.

sangre eternal kicked ass! great music, goth babes, vampires, dysfunctional family....wow, total flashback from 80's scifi/horror films! loved it. I never knew Chile has really cool alternative scene! I would love to find out other cool popculture (targeting 20-30 yr old demographic) films from there.

Again, Miljenko, thanks for the invitation to join this group, which with your informed sensibility, should prove educational. The Del Toro connection is a hook and I'll add this film to my queue to take a look at before I comment further.

What a small world Chilean films are...You will recognize that in "Sangre Eterna", the main female protogonist is Blanca Lewin, a well-known Chilean actress some of you will recognize her from director Matías Bize's feature "En La Cama" (Chile's official submission for this year's Oscars: not the film I would have chosen but okayyy...)
Read Michael Guillén's comprehensive review of "In Bed" at: http://theeveningclass.blogspot.com/2006/04/2006-sfiffin-bed-en-la-cama.html

Blanca Lewin has a pretty cool personal blog, drop by and say hi:

Milenko...which film would you have recommended as an Oscar submission to have represented Chile, considering that 'En La Cama' wasn't your cup of tea. Just curious...

I just met Jorge Olguin in Santiago, at an event hosted by the SANFIC festival. He was supernice -- we talked about zombie films :)
