From Cannes Film Festival:
>>> José Luis Torres Leiva, 31 years old, was born in Santiago (Chile).
In 1998, with his short Le Mort, he wins the Chilean Regional Fund Fondart Award. Since, he has directed many shorts and experimental videos.
In 2003, he receives a grant from the Fundación Andes to make the documentary Ningún Lugar en Ninguna Parte. Then, he directs Obreras saliendo de la fabrica, a short shot in 35mm with the support of the Fondo de Fomento Audiovisual Nacional (FONDART), selected by many festivals (Toulouse, Huesca, Sao Paulo...).
The documentary Ningún Lugar en Ninguna Parte is equally invited to numerous festivals : Rotterdam, Toulouse Encounters...
In 2004, José Luis Torres Leiva receives the prize for Best Director at the Santiago documentary festival, FIDOCS.
The Sky, the Earth and the Rain is his first fictional feature film.

A review of JLTL's short "Obreras Saliendo de una Fábrica," by Sebastián Lorenzo for Chilean film journal La Fuga (http://lafuga.cl):

"Obreras saliendo de la fábrica" debe ser la mejor película realizada en chile desde hace mucho tiempo. Al menos, aquella más imaginativamente sencilla, y quizá también, la más cuidadosamente pensada. Con un ritmo pausado y de cadencias armoniosas, nos aleja de la observación externalista y nos sumerge en un devenir comparsa. A su vez, el flujo de la cámara por los interiores de la fábrica, siguiendo las labores de cada una de las cuatro protagonistas del film, parece poco a poco invitarnos a caminar por los circuitos de la aplastante maquinaria textil, rastro perdido, figura ya convaleciente, de la pasión por la producción y la industria de ese acabado estatismo magnificente."
