What are you looking forward to in 2007?
Some of the year's big Bollywood releases have already come and gone - *Guru*, *Salaam-e-Ishq*, *Eklavya*. I was looking forward to *Honeymoon Travels*, which I saw in the theater and adored, and have already enjoyed once again on DVD.

So what of the rest of the year's releases are you excited about? I'm looking forward to two, though I don't know a ton about either of them.

One is *Aaja naachle,* Madhuri Dixit's long-awaited "comeback" film. The title ("Come and dance") suggests that it plays to one of her greatest strengths - her dancing. I've seen some production stills and Madhuri looks fabulous.

The other I know even less about, but I just like the cast - it's *Laaga chunari mein daag*, in which Rani Mukherji and Konkona Sen Sharma play a pair of sisters. That alone is enough to get me to the theater.

There are plenty of high-flying films to watch out for in 2007:

1) Jhoom Barabar Jhoom
2) Saawariya ****
3) Om Shanti Om
4) Shootout At Lokhandwala***
5) Ta Ra Rum Pum
6) Chak De India
7) Akbar-Jodha***
8) Blue Umbrella***
9) Khoya Khoya Chand *** (Sudhir Mishra)
10) Aaja Nachle
11) Laaga Chunari Mein Daag

And i'm sure there are plenty more that I just can't think of off the top of my head.

Carla, looks like you're really looking forward to the YRF films (Aaja Nachle, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Chak De India, Ta Ra Rum Pum). The reason you don't know much about hte first two is because not much has been released about them! So, nobody really knows much except the credits.

*** means those are the films I'm realy expecting a lot out of....

Aakash, I'm not particularly looking forward to YR films; the two I mentioned happen to be YR, but it's their casts that grab my attention and nothing else. I'm not particularly looking forward to Chak De India (Shah Rukh Khan + sports film = low on carla's list of priorities) or Ta Ra Rum Pum (neither here nor there for any particular reason).

I also didn't name every forthcoming film in my post just so that others like you would jump in and list more. :) Can you add a few words about why you are particularly looking forward to the films you identified?

I should add that SRK notwithstanding I will definitely make an effort to see *Om Shanti Om* because I liked Farah Khan's comic touch in *Main hoon na* and I think she can use SRK's shtick in a self-deprecating way that is very appealing.

The films I am particularly looking forward to are

1) Saawariya (Sanjay Leela Bhansali)

Do I have to say anything here? lol. What reasons have SLB given us not to go watch his films?? This one is going to be another romantic splendor by SLB after Hum Dil De Chuka Sanam. And it sparks the careers of star children Ranbir and Sonam Kapoor!! The music of this film by Monty is another factor to look forward to.

2) Shootout At Lokhandwala (Sanjay Gupta)

Well, I personally find Sanjay Gupta films very glossy, slick, and action-pakced. Shootout At Lokhandwala promises all that! Not to mention it is inspired from a true event and has a stunning starcast: Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Arjun Rampal, Vivek Oberoi, Tushar Kapoor, and others. Oh and the film is produced by Sanjay Dutt along with Sanjay Gupta. !!!

3) Akbar-Jodha (Ashutosh Gowarikar)

I loved Lagaan, and well was not too thrilled with Swades. But Jodha-Akbar promises to be a total magnum-opus epic. Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai humiliated themselves (in my eyes) in Dhoom and this film is the complete opposite..so I'm hoping they'll light fires on screen, which I think they will. We've never seen Hrithik in this kind of a period role before so it should be grand.

4) Blue Umbrella (Vishal Bharadwaj)

Vishal Bharadwaj can do NO wrong. And after his Shakespear adaptations this will be a nice spin-off. And not to mention Pankaj Kapoor in the lead - he's an amazing actor.

5) Khoya Khoya Chand (Sudhir Mishra)

Once again this director has a splendid track-record: Jaane Bhi Dho Yaaron, Is Raat Ki Koi Subah Nahi, Chameli, Hazaaron Khwahishen Aisi. And it is a ode and tribute to Indian Films of the 1950s. It has Shiney (who he discovered in HKA) and Soha. The film promises to be a grand tribute to the cinema of that time and unravel a beautiful story all the while.

Here are some other things to look forward to this year - I've seen a couple of promos that have piqued my interest.

*Cheeni kum* - Amitabh Bachchan and Tabu in a grown-up romantic comedy that looks very salty and promising. Promos and other information available at the film's official website: http://www.cheenikum.com/ . The title song loops at the official website and is very mellow and catchy - music is by Ilaiyaraaja, who is a prolific and revered South Indian composer; *Cheeni kum* is his first Hindi film.

*Jhoom barabar jhoom* - looks quite a bit sillier. I don't know much about this but get a load of Amitabh's outfit in this promo! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHo451QtbIA The film also features Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta, Bobby Deol, and Lara Dutta.
