When I'm sitting at home with my doors and windows barricaded on Halloween night trying to ignore the constant ringing of my doorbell, I like to put on a movie to drown out the sounds of sugar-high children loitering on my front porch. This is a list of my top ten choices for what that film might be.
10. Little Monsters (1989)
This wacky movie was made for kids, but Howie Mandel has electrifying energy in his performance as Maurice, a monster who turns to clothes when light hits him. Little Monsters began my love affair with leather jackets with dangly things on it.
9. Weirdsville (2007)
Weirdsville recently made its way onto this list, and I'm never going to remove it. With drugs and crime and zombies and satanists and two bumbling idiot protagonists, this hilarious movie helps to pass the precious hours until the candyhounds finally sleep for the night.
8. Event Horizon (1997)
Sam Neill's performance as a scientist slowly losing his mind to the madness of space (and the ill will of a haunted sentient spaceship) is pretty damn cool. Combine his radness with the creepiness of being trapped in a spaceship that wants to KILL YOU, and you've got a recipe for an entertaining Halloween cinematic experience.
7. Lost Highway (1997)
Robert Blake... did he kill his wife?
Maybe yes, maybe no, but this clip from Lost Highway may shed some light on the subject.
Also, it's a damn good movie. Watch with lights ON.
6. From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
Robert Rodriguez's over-the-top tale of vampires and criminals combines foul language and classic horror elements to create a collage of awesomeness. Check out this bar fight.
5. Cabin Fever (2002)
With utterly surreal moments like the one below, Eli Roth's pre-Hostel horror film Cabin Fever is a refreshing take on the teens-die-horribly-in-the-woods genre. Much like that type of film, Cabin Fever is less scary and more campy (so to speak) but the subject matter and some of the gross outs make this a worthy Halloween selection.
4. Evil Dead 2 (1987)
If you haven't seen this movie, you're missing out on one of the classics.Bruce Campbell built himself an entire fanbase on the Evil Dead series of films. Like many of my favorites, Evil Dead 2 piles on the weirdness... especially in scenes like this.
Scary. Ass. Deer.
3. Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
My list wouldn't be complete without a nod to this animated feature by Tim Burton. While over the past few years it's been commercialized to no end, the movie stands on its own as a beautiful and twisted musical about, essentially, stealing Christmas. Music and lyrics by Danny Elfman made this film an instant hit with me, as I'm sure it did with many Hot Topic shoppers.
2. May (2002)
May is one of my all-time favorite movies. Ever. Angela Bettis is hot and creepy, the story is disturbing, and the ending broke my brain. Perfect.
1. Shaun of the Dead (2004)
I love horror movies with humor. There's nothing better than a movie that can scare the bejesus out of me, and then make me laugh hysterically seconds later. Shaun of the Dead does that masterfully. This is my favorite scene. Long live the Queen.
So there they are. I'm sure I've forgotten one or two in my haste to get this list done, so if anyone has any additions feel free to post about them. Hell, post your own top ten list... I'd love to see what other folks are going to be watching on Corporate Candy Holiday (i.e. Halloween).

Good list. I came across another great list that featured the Top 50 Horror Movies of All Time. It featured "Ju-on" as the 2nd best movie. Jaman now has that movie so I watched it over the weekend.
That movie cannot be found.
I was blown away by how cool this movie was. It was seriously eerie and it's inventive approach to the presenting the plot over many years through seemingly disjointed individual scenes was extremely effective.
