Horror movie season's in full swing. Random thoughts:
--Maybe it began in earnest at the end of August, with the simultaneous release of two franchise horror films: THE FINAL DESTINATION and HALLOWEEN 2. It's odd to me that HALLOWEEN 2 was released at a time that guarantees it'll be out of theatres by the time Halloween rolls around. I'm sure some studio exec has a perfectly sound reason for this.
--SORORITY ROW was surprisingly decent, though there were hints of a more substantive movie throughout.
--JENNIFER'S BODY was too much in love with the sound of its own dialogue to really work, which is a shame 'cause it squandered some nice performances.
--I saw PANDORUM and 9 back to back, and was pleased at how much they had in common; two solid apocalypse films, with the former a sci-fi horror and the latter an animated fantasy.
--If you live in San Francisco, perhaps you'll want to see Dario Argento's Three Mothers Trilogy, which begins tonight at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. They've imported a Technicolor print of Suspiria, which shows twice tonight.
--What horror films have scared/amused/infuriated you this season? Which ones are you looking forward to?
