How do you see movies? Do you mostly go to the theater? Do you rent from Blockbuster, Hollywood Video, or a local video store? Do you use Pay-Per-View? Do you (other than Jaman, of course) download movies on the internet? What other ways to you enjoy movie content?
As a parent, I belong to Netflix. Going to the movies is a very expensive proposition in my family, as the cost of babysitting can be more expensive than seeing the film itself.
I rarely go to Theaters. With the number of films I watch in a month, let alone a year, I would go broke. I usually use MIRC and Netflix. I do have some criticisms against Netflix but they have a great collection. And then of course there is Jaman for my world cinema needs.
I have to admit that I haven't delved too deep into the Jaman collection, to make it my movie watching home. I'm still pulled in to the local blockbuster...but considering the regularity and $$$ I should probably look at Netflix. Anyone have any suggestions?
I'd love to have access to north american films, and some documentaries and shows that Blockbuster just doesn't have.
Of course, I usually watch my movies on my laptop while travelling, through Jaman.
However, I have a definite bias, cough, so I guess to answer your actual question. I guess I see most movies at the theater, to be totally honest. Since I live with roommates (and it's their TV, not mine), I only get to rent movies at home when they're away. Plus, I really enjoy the theater experience.
I love the theatre experience too! Don't theatre owners realize that those exhorbant costs are turning a lot of us cinemaphiles away from the theatres? 4 of Toronto's rep. theatres, playing 2nd run movies had to shutdown. They couldn't compete. A last bastion of slightly less expensive theatre options, gone. So sad!
Funny you should mention that, bjlawrence11... we just got out of an hoiur-long seminar on distribution and the entire distribution chain. It seems like the expense of the theater release is just to cover the film's publicity (newspaper ads, etc). No one sees any of that money.
