On the lookout for a good yarn this December? A colleague of mine mentioned this soon-to-be-released title is on his radar:

The trailer has a smoky and haunting look that will serve the story well. I'm always rooting for epic tales of resistance and freedom (what can I say? My family came from an ex-colony) but "Defiance" is an original take on most Holocaust survival narratives:
A band of Russian Jews headed by a trio of brothers fight against the tide of Nazi annihilation, choosing to save lives rather than succumb to slaughter.
Did I mention this is a true story?
I don't know how Daniel Craig does it but he looks very convincing as a native Russian in the trailer. I don't think we're going to have a problem of his Russian accent slipping in this film.
The cast also has the very talented but understated Liev Schrieber, risk-taking Jamie Bell, and exotic beauty Alexa Davalos (fans of the "Angel" TV series might recognize her . . . ).
